Whole Life Times Book Review July 1997

A book should never be judged by its cover, so don't be fooled by the plain white cover of this one, wherein so much of what you wanted to know pertaining to just about every aspect of life, is contained. In Dr. Brian K. Bailey's book, Secrets to Happiness, Inner Peace and Health, a complete guide to optimal wellness of body, mind and spirit is promised--and delivered.

Part one of the book is dedicated to mental, emotional, and spiritual health; exploring issues like relationships, forgiveness, how to set short-term and long-term goals, effective journaling, and meditation. The chapters are short, to-the-point and filled with enjoyable quotes to grow on. Part two is dedicated to the creation of the perfect body--yours. The best part about Dr. Bailey's compilation of facts and figures is that he goes beyond what many authors of his field fail to do, which is to give us the tools and equations to actually create a better body, instead of lecturing us on why we don't already have one. We all know that reducing fat intake will in turn reduce body fat, but that fact if useless if we don't know how to manipulate it for our particular needs. To find out how many fat grams your body can assimilate per day, do the simple math problem below "Convert your desired body weight to kilograms by multiplying pounds by 0.454 (or by dividing by 2.2) This is the average number of fat grams per day you may eat." (page 161)

A formula for finding your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is included in a chapter dealing with ways to increase your metabolism. Despite the plain cover, what's inside is anything but.
